Abstract

Social networks have a profound impact on many aspects of one’s life, and have been shown to influence health outcomes and risky behaviors through numerous mechanisms. However, some mechanisms have been understudied among specific populations and/or behaviors. This talk explores the effect of both network structure and direct peer influence (viewed through norms and social control) on sleep behaviors among college students, as well as the social capital of older adult’s networks on both preventative and risky health behaviors controlling for prior disability status.
